So, for the third time, I've had a quote added to Bash.org

Linky

<Yaksha> I asked my brother what he wanted for Christmas.
<Yaksha> He said he wanted cold hard cash.
<Yaksha> So that's exactly what I gave him.
<Yaksha> I got 20 $1 bills, soaked them in water and put them in the freezer.
<Yaksha> When he got it, it was just a block of green ice that took a day to thaw.

So for Christmas, my mom got me an Amazon gift card. I got some books with it. I was also "selected" to get a free three month membership of Amazon Prime, which means I get free two day shipping.

Someone remind me in March to cancel that, mm'kay?

Anyway, I found some great books to get, including:

The Zombie Survival Guide
How To Survive A Robot Uprising
Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Book

I'm pretty much prepared for anything.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas :)

I wasn't able to go back to Washington, lack of money and the inability to take time off of work were the contributing factors.

Saturday was pretty uneventful, Starlyn had to work both Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, Josh and Anastasia came and picked me up and we went to his families place for Christmas. I also finished editing an episode for the Sponsors vs Freeloaders web series I do. My presents from my mom arrived, I got a $50 Amazon gift card, a water powered clock, a USB lava lamp and a remote control that can turn off any TV.

On Monday I went with Starlyn and Esther down to Coolidge to visit Starlyn's folks. Starlyn got me the movies Pink Flamingos and Kung Fu Hustle. We watched Kung Fu Hustle which was very entertaining. Esther and Starlyn also found Jolt at Fry's Electronics. They gave me one as we were driving down to Coolidge. At one point I reached down to grab the Jolt out of the cupholder and saw it was missing. I was looking around trying to figure out where I had put it when I looked over at Esther, who was in the passenger seat, and said, "Are you drinking my Jolt?" She looked at her bottle, looked at me, there was a few moments of silence followed by many moments of laughter. I think Esther likes Jolt a little too much.

Some pictureCollapse )

After getting back into town we all went and saw The Producers which was hilarious. The whole theatre was rolling with laughter.

I had a little too much fun before and after the movie with the TVs in the concession area, which I kept turning on and off with the remote control I mentioned above.

Yesterday, I was at a doctor's house, fixing up his computer as he will be going on call soon. I had a hard time finding the place, I wasn't sure if I had the right house or not so I drove into the driveway to get a better look at the numbers on the house. It was it. So I parked and went inside. After a while of working, the doctor came into his office and told me his wife had backed into my car while coming out of the garage.

It wasn't like I was right up against the garage door or anything, I was a good 15 to 20 feet back. The damage wasn't too bad, the bumper had a small chunk taken out of it. He told me a place to go to get an estimate, that way he wouldn't have to go through his insurance company. I told him the place gave me an estimate at $1500. He called the insurance company.

Now I'm just waiting to hear back from them to see where to take my car to get it fixed. I wonder if there's any way I can claim a neck injury or pain and suffering from this.

Ahh well, the bumper had a few scratches on it already from when I gave a pole a slight love tap :-D

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In June I set nilmandra's puppy on fire (-66 points). Last Tuesday I didn't flush (-1 points). Last Thursday I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). Last Saturday I ruled Duluth, Minnesota as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In May bubbles and I robbed a bank (-50 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-893 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

Sincerely,
yaksha42

Tomorrow I drive with my boss to Yuma. For those who don't know, Yuma is about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive from Phoenix. The company I work for has some clients down there, and we have to go down there to fix any problems that come up.

And what's the problem that came up that warrants us driving down to Yuma? There's a monitor that needs to be replaced. That's it.

So, six hours of driving, 5 minutes of work. This should be interesting.

Now, in all fairness to the people down in Yuma, they don't have the type of monitor that they need. The only one available is at the office in Phoenix, so we have to drive it down. It's a special monitor that radiologists use to view MRI scans, CT scans, X-Rays, etc. on the computer. Normal monitors aren't high enough quality to be used for diagnostic purposes.

You know, when they first announced a "Halo" movie (based on my favorite video game) last summer, I had my doubts. I figured it would be some crappy video game to movie remake that always suck.

Those doubts are now gone.

Peter Jackson, yes, THE Peter Jackson, has just been signed on as the Executive Producer. And coming with him in the package is WETA.

This movie is going to fucking rock.

Wee, I got a job.

It's at the medical imaging place I had the interview with last Friday.

I actually had a few other interviews lined up, but I think the medical imaging one was more exciting.
One was working in the IT position at Westcor, who owns most of the malls in the Phoenix area, so I'd be doing internal tech support for them.
Another was for a video compression job at Echostar, the people who own DiskNetwork.
And another was for setting up new computers and networks inside Bank of Americas in Phoenix and Nevada.

But I think I will enjoy this job. The only downside is there's a probation period where I won't be able to have time off or insurance, but I can deal with that. There's a lot of on call work (When a doctor's home computer stops working he may call me to try and fix it) and I'll occasionally be traveling down to Casa Grande and Yuma to do upgrading and maintenance on the computers in hospitals there (as well as hospitals in Phoenix).

I start this Thursday, so hopefully I'll be able to get right into the swing of things.

I'm back in the warmth of Phoenix. Washington was OK, nothing too exciting happened. I did have an allergic reaction to the beach where my hands swelled up and I also went shooting with a now paraylyzed old friend (only the second time I've ever shot guns, and it was with him that I did it the first time too :P). But other than that, it was pretty boring.

I began my job searching today. I spent the morning updating my resume and hunting around monster.com. In the afternoon I stopped by Maricopa Workforce Connections (thanks natatattat!). They were pretty helpful and had lots of job searching info. While I was there I got a call from one of the people I sent my resume to on monster.com, so I have an interview tomorrow for a network admin job at a medical imaging place. That would be a pretty good job, I'd be back working with computers which is what I want to do amd I've been wanting to get into medical technology for a while so this would help. We'll see how the pay/benefits are.

Otherwise, I have an appointment on Tuesday with a career counselor person and they'll try and point me in the right direction for a job. The place is pretty cool, they offer a bunch of free training classes and also give people the chance to take certain college programs for free.

Hung out with estherthegb tonight which was fun. I'm too lazy to unpack. Does anyone want to do it for me?

I'm back in Washington now. The second I got off the plane I could feel my lungs constricting :-p I swear I'm allergic to this place.

My dad is letting me use his old crappy car to drive around town when I need to. It takes about a minute to get it up to 60, which is always fun when merging onto a freeway.

No big plans while I'm here, though it's a pretty good time to come. There's a parade called Logger's Playday in a week or so that is usually a lot of fun, plus my dad's birthday is in two weeks. It's been probably 5 years since I've been in town for that.

Apparently there's an RV park a few miles down the road that offers free WiFi, so I was able to connect to them with my laptop. Cool stuff :-D

I think today was just about the worst day of my life. Today, for the first time in my life, I was fired from a job.

This morning I woke up in a hotel room in Dallas. Originally I was supposed to be working at Texas Instruments for half the day, but the guy I was going to work with finished everything the night before. So I decided to cruise down to downtown Dallas, I took some pictures and just wandered around randomly. I started heading to the airport when I got a page from my boss asking me to come into work once I was back in Phoenix.

I got back to Phoenix and went into the office where I was taken into a room with my boss and an HR guy. They told me that they've had to come to a hard decision. They've watched me work and they've talked to my coworkers and they decided that my working habits were not satisfactory. I can understand this, I guess. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, and that's most of what the job is. I've been doing it for three months, and they just didn't like the progress I was making. Most of the other guys I work with are 'car guys.' They work on their cars, build their own, etc. They have mechanical training, and so a job like this comes easy to them. I just wasn't good enough.

I don't know what I want to do now. I need a new job, but I'm not sure if I want to stay in the semiconductor field or move onto something completely different.

I am going to take some time off though. From work, from the Internet, from most everything. My dad was the first one I called, and he suggested that I take some time off and go back to Hoquiam, spend some time with family and relax, so I'm going to take him up on it. He's flying in tomorrow morning, we're gonna do some sight seeing, finish up some things in town and then we're probably going to drive back to Washington, which is something we originally planned to do last Christmas but got interrupted for health reasons.

I really feel like I need time away to figure out what I want to do with my life, before today, I was content with what I was doing. I may have been slow and struggling, but I thought I'd get it eventually. I was really enjoying the traveling and liked the people I work with. It was a pretty hard hit, I feel like a failure, but I know that I can rebound, I just have to figure out what I want to rebound to.

So I'm back in Phoenix.

In a few hours I'll be taking a flight to Dallas. I have a training class I have to go to and some preinstall activities that need to be done. I fly back to Phoenix Friday afternoon. I return to Dallas for the install on Sunday and will be there until the 4th. I <3 Frequent Flyer Miles.

I went out with mi_wounded_soul and anarie111 last night :D We watched The Longest Yard and played with their dog, who got a little too excited when we came home and had an asthma attack.

Not too much else going on, just trying not to work myself to death :-p

I mentioned in the entry about my brothers wedding that I was able to get a Cadillac as a rental.

My dad liked it so we snapped a couple of pictures. And so I brag.Collapse )

Just got a new schedule. It looks like rather than going back to Phoenix on the 23rd, I'll be leaving on the 24th. And instead of going back to Phoenix, I'll be going to Dallas for a training class. So I'll probably be back in Phoenix either late on the 25th or the 26th. Then on the 29th I go back to Dallas to work.

So who wants to help me rig a poll? :-D

Anyway, I mentioned earlier that some of my Halo videos were being nominated for a contest called "Rockets on Prisoner." The nomination period is over and it's time to vote. My brother's wedding was yesterday. I asked my boss for the day off, so I took an early flight Monday morning from Boise to Portland. I rented a car (got a free upgrade to a Caddilack, bwaha), and drove to Seaside, Oregon, where the wedding was.

It went pretty good, I got to see a lot of family I haven't seen since Christmas (and some longer). The brother who got married was Jason, he's about a year older than me. He met his wife, Megan, in Job Corp a few years ago. It was a pretty informal wedding, it was out at the beach and people were asked to dress comfortably. The weather was supposed to be nicer, but at least it didn't rain (it was just foggy/clouder and cold).

My flight back was Tuesday morning (6AM, meaning I had to leave Seaside at 2:30AM). I got back to Boise and was picked up by my co-workers and we went back to work.

Anyway, Pictures!Collapse )

There's quite a few, so it may take a while to load.

Today I checked into the Residence Inn, a lot better long term stay hotel.

I went over to set the alarm for tomorrow morning and noticed the alarm clock in the hotel room is the exact same alarm clock I have back home.

OK, so I mentioned in a previous journal entry about the contest I'm in for my Halo videos. There's one video that hasn't gotton any nominations yet, so I need help. So I need everyone to do the follow. plzkthx

1. Go Here
2. Find "Episode 5 - FlameWar: A Matter of Balance by Sponsors Vs. Freeloaders"
3. Click the little radio button next to it.
4. Scroll down near the bottom, there is a drowdown list.
5. In the dropdown list, pick either "Best Cinematography" or "Best Editing, Sound, and FX"
6. Scroll down a bit and hit submit.

Yay, that's it.

Boise is doing pretty good. I got put up at the Double Tree hotel for the first few days, which is a branch of Hilton. I don't like it all that much, they don't even have a free continental breakfast. I've stayed in Super 8 that have that. Luckily I move to the Residence Inn tomorrow (they were full when I tried to book my room), which will be a larger room and have a kitchen.

On Monday I leave for Boise, I'll be there for about three weeks working. I'll be sure to feast on all things potatoe flavored while I'm there.

My brother is getting married on the 15th. He lives in Seaside, Oregon, which is about an hour and a half from Portland. I asked my boss and he gave me the day off. So my plan is to fly into Portland on the morning of the 15th, drive to Seaside, go to my brothers wedding, then fly back to Boise in the evening and start working again the next day. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? :-D

Oh, and in other news, I've mentioned those videos I've made in Halo before. Well, there's a site called Rockets on Prisoner that is like the Academy Awards of Halo videos, and a few of my videos have made it into the submissions list. They are having public nominations until the 12th, you can vote once per day. So I need everyone to go here and vote for one of my videos. I'm trying to get "Bob the Engineer" voted in for "Best Trailer" and "The Wind Beneath My Wings" voted for "Best Music Video." So help me out, will ya? :-D

So the lovely city of Mesa, where I lived briefly with bubbles, has this great network of intersections. At many intersections, there are cameras. These cameras take pictures of cars that run red lights. Well, sometime in mid April, one of them took my picture.

About a month later I got a letter in the mail. It had my picture (and my car from several angles) running the red light. I was looking over the info on the letter and noticed how fast I was going when I ran the red light. 16 mph (25 kph). I ran a red light going 16 mph and now had a ticket for it. There was a form I had to fill out and send back to the Mesa Court saying that I would show up for court in early July.

When I went into the court in July, I thought I'd be able to argue that I was only going 16 mph, and that most likely I just got trapped in the intersection and that's why it looks like I had run the red light. But, when I showed up, I found out it was just an arraignment. I just walked up to a counter, gave the woman my paper, and told me I had the option of paying for the ticket or going to court. I said I wanted to go to court and she scheduled one for the beginning of August.

Today I got a call. It was someone from the court saying that my case had been dismissed. So now I don't have to go into court and my driving record remains squeaky clean. Yipee!

And remember kids, it's only illegal if you get caught AND convicted.
